10 Ways To Stay Organized in School

1. Get a Planner
A planner will help you organize yourself anywhere from a week to a month in advance. Make sure you read your syllabus and mark the most important dates in your planner. Test dates, study dates, holidays, and personal events are just a few important dates you should include in your planner so you can plan adequately. When you do this, you can allocate the most time to the most pressing matters.
2. Be Prepared
Get yourself ready for the day a night before. For example, organize your backpack the night before class. Make sure you have writing utensils, paper, and anything else needed for class. Also, having your scrubs cleaned and ready for you to wear can streamline your morning routine. Being prepared for class not only puts you at ease, but it also prepares you for any unexpected event.
3. Begin a Group Chat with Your Classmates
This tip is probably the most important tip to stay organized. Some of your classmates may know more than you, so beginning a group chat will allow the group to share knowledge, remind you if something is coming up, or even ask for your help. Group chats are also a great way to develop relationships with your peers. Try using GroupMe or even Google Hangouts for this.
4. Color Code
Color coding can be helpful for visual learners. Color code anything from your notes to your binders. Setting up a color code helps you identify items in your bags faster. If you color-code your notes, you can easily decipher what topic area needs more focus.
5. Create a Study Space
Study spaces are crucial to staying organized. Although they can be placed in your room, the best place for a study spot is as far away as possible from where you rest. Why? Because you want to have a balanced work and personal life. A study space has to be kept neat. Your bedroom directly reflects your mindset, and sometimes it can get too cluttered and become distracting.
6. Set Reminders
Whether you have an iPhone or an Android, an app reminds you of anything that may slip your mind. You can set times so your phone will alert you at precisely the right time you need it. Some great apps for the iPhone and Android are Any.do and Google Keep.
7. Set a Daily Routine
Daily routines are not dull. They are necessary. Whenever you wake up and go to bed simultaneously every day, you develop a better sense of time. Once you create a better understanding of how long you take to get ready and wind down, you can plan your days out in advance.
8. Eat Healthy & Sleep
Eating and sleeping are what powers the body. If you are not taking care of yourself, how will you take care of others? Ensure you are getting all the right vitamins and nutrients from the food you are eating and avoid all the junk. Eating right can boost your immune system, metabolism, and mood, while sleeping a full 8 hours can deter grogginess, improve memory, help the heart, and steady your blood sugar. Self-care is what keeps you on track to a better future.
9. Use a Timer
Use a timer to help you keep track of how long you are taking on tasks. There are apps available to time yourself, such as Toggl. Timers can help you better manage your time as well as show you what needs more focus. There are many ways you can manage your time, but many people swear by the 25-minute rule. Set a timer for 25 minutes and see how much you can get done. After the 25 minutes, move on to the next task.
10. Learn How to Say “NO"
We have all fell victim to our friends and family inviting us to a night out on the town right before a big exam. Learn how to say “no” and stick to your plan. Make sure they know you are busy and have to focus on school. Your friends should understand. Offer another night that is easier for you to attend. Falling victim to peer pressure is one of the worst mistakes you can make when staying organized.
