Is Welding Essential?

Compass Career College student weldingAccording to American Welding Society research, 70 percent of all manufactured products are made with the skills of welders. Ultimately, welding is essential. It is more than just a process that joins two metals together permanently. Welding is a part of our everyday lives. From cars and planes to buildings, bridges, and small kitchen appliances, metal work is the backbone of our economy. Many industries, including Automotive, Construction and Aviation industries, would not exist without the skills of a welder.

Not only does welding provide jobs for our economy, but it also helps us build new products that make our work more efficient and lives more productive. Without it, our economy would suffer and the world around us would be very different. We wouldn’t be able to quickly travel from one place to another by car or airplane, and large buildings couldn’t be constructed.

By 2025 AWS reports the U.S. will be faced with a shortage of more than 400,000 welding professionals which will in turn affect the bottom line of the industries mentioned above and the health of our economy. In other words, welding is essential to the U.S. Economy and educated welders are in high demand across the United States. The skills you develop at Compass Career College can lead you to many opportunities.

In Louisiana alone, there has been a major surge in industrial construction projects in the last few years. In addition to several significant recruiting wins by the Department of Economic Development (LED), the state’s improved business climate and the low price of natural gas are prompting companies to invest in new plant construction and expansions of existing plants. The potential for a shortage of skilled industrial construction workers to build and maintain the plants and construction projects in the state of Louisiana has prompted public and private groups from around the state to convene to try to address the issue.
