We’ve gathered a list of questions you can ask yourself to help you determine if embarking on a journey to become a licensed cosmetologist is the right fit for you.

 1. Do you have a career path in mind?

Before you embark on a career as a cosmetologist, you should consider what you’d like to do after you graduate. As a cosmetologist, your career options are vast because you can provide beauty services for hair, skin and nails. Some possible dream career opportunities you should consider if you haven’t already include:

  • Hair Stylist
  • Makeup Artist
  • Esthetician
  • Barber
  • Waxing Specialist
  • Film/TV Hairstylist
  • Nail Technician/Manicurist
  • Salon Manager
  • Spa Owner
  • Beauty Blogger

2. Do you understand what the Cosmetology Program offers and what you will learn?

The Cosmetology Program at Compass Career College offers more than what meets the eye. Our courses are structured to offer the most comprehensive skills training, giving students a competitive edge in the ever-changing beauty industry.

Compass Career College’s Cosmetology Program is designed to produce students who will be sufficiently knowledgeable and able to seek and find employment in the beauty industry. We aim to maximize the development
and personal growth of each student as a total person, to discover his or her own potential and function as a cosmetology entrepreneur.

3. Are you able to work well with clients and a team?

As a cosmetologist you must not only love the work you do, but also the people involved. Working well with a team of other cosmetologists and your clients is likely to be part of your everyday job. Sometimes your client will want to discuss their personal life with you if they are comfortable, so it is important you’re able to build and cultivate a “stylist-client” relationship.

Remember: whenever you provide an exciting, fresh new haircut, you make a difference.

4. Are you able to stand for long periods of time?

You already know that cosmetology is not a desk job. It requires long hours on your feet. Our clinic time during our Cosmetology Program will give you a peek inside what it's like to work on your feet while providing you access to real clients so you see and feel what it is like to truly make a difference.

5. Are you available to commit the appropriate amount of time and energy?

The Cosmetology Program at Compass Career College is fun, exciting, and fast-paced. But it also requires you to commit a vast amount of time and energy so you are ready to pass the Board Exam and enter the job market. Many people say attending the program is much like having a full-time job because you are busy and always training, whether you are on the clinic floor or in class learning about theory and technique.

6. Do you love cosmetology?

Cosmetology is a rewarding career with many opportunities. It provides you a chance to use your creativity, meet new people, help people feel better about themselves, bond with instructors and more. If you are truly passionate about learning more about cosmetology or you already feel invested in pursuing the career, it will be easier to look past the long hours and energy required and focus on the joy that comes from being able to make a difference.

Well, your future looks bright and beautiful, and it is time to establish your roots. We’d love to talk to you in person about our program and how we can help you begin your career as a cosmetologist.
