Medical Billing and Coding

The Medical Billing and Coding program provides instruction in medical records and insurance software applications, basic anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, fundamentals of medical science and treatment procedures, data classification and coding, data entry skills, and regulations relating to Medicare and insurance documentation.

Graduates of this program will have the ability to properly identify codeable services; accurately utilize ICD 10 Codes; accurately utilize CPT codes & HCPC for supplies/DME and procedures; perform hospital outpatient/inpatient coding and physician practice coding; and completing the billing and claims processes for physician practice and hospitals (both manual and electronic).

The philosophy of the Medical Billing and Coding program is to prepare qualified students to be competent professionals in the field of Allied Health.

Our goal is to recruit, retain, and graduate students who will remain in the area as productive working citizens and directly contribute to the betterment and public health of the community. The Medical Billing and Coding program is designed to serve the students who are interested in gaining employment in the healthcare field.

Our curriculum is built to prepare students for the following certification exams the American Academy of Professional Coders:

  1. Certified Professional Coder (CPC)
  2. Certified Professional Biller (CPB)
